In the decade or so since the search engine was first invented, the field of Search Engine Optimization
has evolved. Some obsolete information and old wives' tales still persist, and these can damage your standings.

The myths and obsolete techniques fall into a few broad categories:

- Keyword density: There are many number of magic formulas touted on the internet, claiming that if you reach the perfect number of keyword instances per page, your rankings will go up. While you do need to have the keyword somewhere in your text in order to have your stated keywords considered relevant, artificially inflating the number of instances is a bad plan. First, it simply decreases the quality of your content. Second, the search engines may begin classifying your site as too spammy, and actually downgrade your rating.

- Tags and META: Loading keywords into your page headers and the meta data of your site is also an old trick that's now likely to get you classified as spammy. Only keywords that are relevant to your content and specific to what your users are searching for should be included.

- Links: Some fraudulent SEO services, and some outdated pieces of advice, will associate your website with link exchange systems and link farms. Since the search engines keep track of these farms and exchanges, and using them is considered trickery, being part of them can actually significantly downgrade your rating.

- Submission to search engines: Once upon a time, submitting your site to search engines was a long and arduous process, which was nonetheless necessary to get a good place in the rankings. These days, search engine submission is generally not needed at all, since the engines automatically search for new sites. If they don't find yours quickly, manual submission is quite easy and there are a few top search engines that have most of the market share.

Conversely, there are a few relevant and current strategies for climbing the ranks of search results. (It should come as no surprise that these are broader and more difficult or time-consuming to implement than the myths would suggest.)

- Unique content: Consistently offering high quality content that is valuable to your users, unique on the web, and from original sources is by far the best way to attract users - and search engines - to your site. If your site consists of copy, providing a unique value in information filtering, commentary and analysis, or other user-friendly services.

- Voice of authority: Along with unique content, offering an authoritative voice is a good way to increase your links and therefore your page ranking. Either become an authority yourself or offer interviews, quotes, or guest content by noted authorities in your field. If well-respected people and organizations recommend or reference your site, your popularity will rise.

- Professional networking for link sharing: As a web master, blogger, marketer, or business owner, professional contacts matter for a wide range of activities. Additionally, you may ask these people to link their sites with yours, or to provide expert and authoritative content for your site.

- Crawler files: Having a robots.txt file that is updated, accurate, and properly configured can make your site easier to catalogue correctly. Building the site's architecture in a crawler-friendly manner can give your site a slight edge that may be worth pursuing. Do remember that search engine developers are concerned with their users and serving them appropriate content. They're smart enough to outwit most technical tricks.

Everyone wants their websites to be search engine optimized, or SEO-friendly. However, there are some common errors that people make when they're doing SEO work on their site, and these errors can actually cost them that highly coveted top ten ranking that everyone wants. Here are some things to avoid when doing SEO work on your website.

Remember the ALT tags! Almost every image on your website (not including the background and any images that serve as buttons and the like) needs to have ALT text. This is the text that shows up if the image doesn't load. More importantly, however, it's the text that tells search engines what the image is since the programs can't actually see the picture. A good ALT tag will include two or three of your keywords, and it's a great place to stick in extra keywords that the viewer will (hopefully, unless your image is missing) never see.

Don't use the same title tag on every page of your site. While it may be easy to simply write one title for your homepage and then leave it on every page, this is another place where you're losing out on a place to stick keywords. Vary the title for each page so that search engines will notice the difference, and try to include different keywords for different pages.

Avoid scripts! While Flash and the like are becoming more compatible with search engines, it's still difficult for more search engines to see inside Flash objects. This means you're losing places to put meta tags, ALT tags, and more.

Don't just write for robots. While writing articles with a high keyword density might get your page ranked higher by the search engine, it's going to send actual human readers away. They don't want to read anything redundant or clumsy. "Our furniture store in London provides great furniture for London residents looking for furniture designed specifically for London" is going to either annoy readers or make them laugh at the horrible writing. Be sure your SEO phrases and such can be integrated into the text seamlessly so they don't stand out and don't over-use them.

Also, actually write your website text yourself (or hire someone to write it). Don't plagiarize - don't copy and paste text off of one website and put it on yours without making it clear where the text came from. Too much duplicate text on your page will be flagged by search engines.

Likewise, avoid any bad SEO practices like hidden text or keyword stuffing. Hidden text refers to adding a ton of keywords at the bottom of a website and then making them the same color as the background, effectively hiding them from viewers. Search engines still see them, however. In the past, this was a technique that did actually make search engines rank sites higher, but today's robots are smart enough to recognize this technique and ignore it. Likewise, keyword stuffing, or making a webpage that's almost nothing but keywords, raises a number of flags in search engine robots and may actually get your pages ranked lower.

Finally, make certain all of your links describe where they're going. No one likes to click links that aren't clearly described by the surrounding text or give a good idea of their target. Plus, links are another factor a search engine uses to determine site relevancy, so not clearly marking them is detrimental in several ways.

It’s not a great secret, but you would be hard pressed to find any SEO or marketing company to give you their ‘secret’ ways to delivering a website into a search engine such as Google, in as little as a day or two. In fact you would be hard pressed really to find any comprehensive guide, studying the ways and wherefores of how to actually list a website in the natural organic listings so quickly.

Yes, we have all read the free study guides on how to submit a website, we have all been to the submission links of the major search engines and blasted our sites URL off into the never never world.

But, if you didn’t already know, and you probably didn’t if you have read this far – there are at least 100 different ways I can think of right now, on the spot, that can get a perfectly new URL actually listed in Google in a day, give or take a day!

These ways are free, with there being no cash involved you will be pleased to hear, and will certainly see your website up there in lights (well at least for your website name anyway). These are not ways or mechanisms to get top rankings, these are not way to suddenly drive hundreds and thousands of new visitors to your website. These are simply ways to get the site listed, without the need to use any free search engine submission link as provided by the almighty Google or Yahoo.

So, if you have your notepads and pens I shall begin:

1. Have you twittered or tweeted lately? Well start now, if you have not already got a Twitter account my suggestion is to sign up today. Get yourself a lovely Twitter name as your website address, and in your profile provide a lovely link to your URL. After this, go and find 50 people (in any industry – some people would say you must be focussed, but at the end of the day you just want your site listed – so find 50 people in any topic area), follow them and then sure as mustard within a few hours some of them will be following you back. Why doe this help? Because new Twitter accounts invariably get listed in record time, and the more people following you the higher the chances of that being picked up. Then your link to your website sees the spiders (that’s the search engine spiders by the way!) racing to it.

2. Free press release site, yes yes, you have heard it all before. Use press releases to get your website listed yarda yarda yarda. Well listen up, because I am going to give you one HUGE tip and recommendation, write yourself a nice little press release. It doesn’t matter if your English is bad, is worse than bad or is just downright awful. Simply do your best, right a nifty little announcement about your site going LIVE on such and such a date, what’s its about and how great it is. Make sure you provide links in the press release to your site, just 2 links will be more than enough. Then go and search for some “free press release” submission sites and deliver your brand spanking new announcement release to about 10 of these free PR sites. Don’t pay a dime if your intention is just to get your site listed, you don’t actually want the publicity – you just want the listing, and this really does work.

3. Got any buddies with websites, can you buy them a beer for a link? If you know anyone else with a website that has a fair few visitors ask them to put up a link to your website until it gets listed. This is a tried and tested method – and the more buddies the better!

4. Youtube.com, no you don’t have to upload that latest family video. You can create some new videos using some of Windows own tools! A few graphics created to promote your product, created into a video, uploaded to YouTube.com with a nice link to your URL at the side – lovely.

I could go on, but I think you will find that implanted correctly, selecting just 3 of the above 4 recommendations will safely see your site listed in a couple of days. There are many more variations to the above methods, and with a little thought you can no doubt figure these out yourself – but to train your thought, think Dailymotion and Myspace and all the other sites that follow the same theme and come in between.

If you are a fan of search engine submission links provided for free by the search engines, then there of course is absolutely no harm in using them. And you could of course you always pay a company to do it for you, but if you want to show all your friends and colleagues just how clever you are at getting your domain name listed so quickly just give the above a shot….

Next time I will go through ideas 5 – 10 just to give you a bit of variety!

Reciprocal link

A reciprocal link is a mutual link between two objects, commonly between two websites to ensure mutual traffic. Example: Alice and Bob have websites. Three way linking (siteA ⇒ siteB ⇒ siteC ⇒ siteA) is a special type of reciprocal linking. The attempt of this link building method is to create more "natural" links in the eyes of search engines. The value of links by three-way linking can then be better than normal reciprocal links, which are usually done between two domains.

Two-Way-Linking (Link exchange)

An alternative to the automated linking above is a link exchange forum, in which members will advertise the sites that they want to get links to, and will in turn offer reciprocal or three way links back to the sites that link to them. * A link for any single term is excessively repeated in the same article. "Excessive" is usually more than one link for the same term in a line or a paragraph, since in this case one or more duplicate links will almost certainly then appear needlessly on the viewer's screen.

Underlinking

The opposites of overlinking are null linking and underlinking, which are phenomena in which hyperlinks are reduced to such a degree as to remove all pointers to a likely-needed context of an unusual term, in the text-area where the term occurs. Underlinking results whenever a reader encounters an odd term in an article (perhaps not even for the first time), and wants to briefly browse more deeply at that point, but he or she cannot without an extensive search of the article for a (possibly non-existent) instance of the linked term.

The extreme case of underlinking is a dead-end page, a page with no links at all. Usability experts discourage making dead-end pages.

The name link is a nickname for a hyperlink, an element in a web document connecting it to another section of that document (an internal link) or to another document somewhere on the web (an external link). External links can be used for a variety of purposes, including advertisement and promotion.

Besides being categorized as internal and external, links can be categorized by where they appear. It is possible to have links in running text, where they are generally identified by being a different color (and turn to a third color once they've been clicked). What you should do is not to rush things. Sit down, open up your favorite text editor in one window and your site in another. Read through the first page of your site. When you have read it, stop to think. What is this page about? Which of the words that appear in the document describe the contents of the page accurately? What kind of words or phrases would someone use if he was using a search engine and trying to find documents like this?

The service is not free, but the trial option offers a chance to search for good keywords without having to pay a dime. By using both Overture and WordTracker and comparing what they think about the popularity of different keywords, you should be able to separate the words people search for from those that are rarely used.

If some of the words you were planning to select aren't commonly used in searches, you might want to consider dropping them from your list. If other words look like they are used quite a lot, then it might be a good idea to consider adding them. But remember to...

By now, your list is probably pretty full of very competitive, single-word terms such as "MP3" or "books" or "computers" or whatever. Scratch them. Contoh grup yang anda buat harus benar-benar memiliki tujuan yang spesifik, dan target anggota yang spesifik juga! dan menurut sumber yang saya baca grup tersebut harus mempunyai sebuah program yang bisa membuat para anggotanya ikut terlibat didalamnya.

Menjadi sponsor sebuah event! tips ini hanya bisa dilakukan apabila anda memang benar-benar mempunyai dukungan finansial yang sangat baik entah itu berasal dari pendapatan blog anda sendiri atau lainya. Saya sendiri belum bisa melakukan tips yang satu ini, tapi saya bisa membayangkan apabila logo dari blog saya bisa berkibar di salah satu event walaupun itu hanya sebuah even kecil semacam pensi d semacamnya, selain blog kita semakin dikenal kita juga sebagai blogger akan merasa bangga dan bahagia.... Membuat berbagai merchandise dengan merek blog kita, dengan merchandise-merchandise yang memiliki logo atau semacamnya, selain kita mempromosikan blog kita kita juga bisa mengahsilkan uang dengan menjualnya (sambil menyelam minum air.... he2x), tapi disarankan untuk tahapan awal merchandise-merchandise tersebut anda gunakan sebagaih hadiah kepada pengunjung untuk menarik minat mereka.

7.Melakukan interview di statsiun radio lokal! apabila pada sebuah stasiun radio lokal terdapat sebuah acara yang membahas dunia teknologi informasi dan internet apalagi kalu itu sudah menjurus pada dunia blogging, ini adalah sebuah kesempatan bagus untuk mempromosikan blog anda dengan cara anda menjadi nara sumber atau semacamnya pada acara tersebut! bagai mana cara mempromosikan web anda itu tergantung pada masing-masing individu(terkait dengan kemampuan berbicara anda). selain itu saya tidak bisa memberitahu secara pasti caranya agar anda bisa menjadi nara sumber di acara tersebut (lakukan apa yang diperlukan untuk bisa mewujudkanya, semisal apabila di stasiun radio tersebut terdapat sodara anda bisa melobinya bukan)

8. Iklan, apabila selama ini kita hanya sering beriklan lewat google Addwords dll, sekarang anda bisa mencobanya dengan beriklan di koran, majalah, lewat poster, stiker, pamflet, atau iklan di teve mungkin...... tidak ada salahnya mencoba bukan

Membuat Area Header Lebih Fleksibel

Secara default area header pada blog di blogger biasanya dikunci! sederhananya kita tidak bisa menambahkan komponen lain di area ini. jadi hanya pada area ini hanya diperbolehkan merubah judul da deskripsi. yang jadi permasalahan kadang kita ingin menambahkan komponen baru pada area ini terutama bagi para blogger yang memasang iklan PPC (seperti adsense), dan ingin mengaplikasikan template "leader board". Lalu dari mana traffic kita dapat melalui social bookmarking ini????? jawabanya adalah dari anggota/ user lain social bookmarking tertentu berkunjung ke halaman profil kita, Apabila dihalaman profil kita terdapat link-link atau tautan url yang kita bookmark, lalu user lain itu mengklik dan akhirnya berkunjung ke blog kita! untuk itu hal pertama yang anda harus lakukan ketika pertama kali setelah anda bergabung kesalah satu social bookmarking adalah menandai/ bookmarking halaman atau url situs atau blog kita dan usahaakan memberikan deskripsi yang sangat menarik perhatian orang banyak.

Menyembunyikan Navigation Bar Blogger

Tips ini sangat sederhana, tapi merupakan hal yang krusial. Bagaimana tidak penting, kalau anda lihat pada navigation bar terdapat sebuah button FLAG, yang fungsinya membaritahu pihak bloggers bahwa blog tersebut tidak layak untuk dipublikasikan (dengan berbagai alasan tentunya), dan apabila banyak sekali pengunjung ke blog itu yang menekan tombol FLAG tersebut (dengan catatan bukan dari satu pc atau satu IP yang sama), dijamin blog anda bakalan di blokir. Saya pernah mengalaminya ketika dalam posting blog terdahulu ada sangkut pautnya dengan SARA he..HE..... (SAYANG WAKTU ITU AKU BELUM TAU TRIK INI). Tapi navigation-bar ini dapat dengan mudah kita sembunyikan, hanya dengan menambahkan beberapa baris kode CSS. Terima kasih buat mba Amanda Fazani dan Bloggerbuster nya buat trik ini.

Menambahkan Sidebar Pada Blog

Semua template standar yang disediakan oleh blogger hanya menempatkan satu buah side-bar di kiri atau di sebelah kanan dari area utama (main wrapper/ area posting). hal ini tentu saja menjengkelkan karena dengan terpaksa kita hanya bisa menempatkan sedikit sekali widget di bagian yang sangat sering di lihat pengunjung (bagian atas atau awal dari blog)

Tapi ini semua bukan akhir dari segalanya, kita bisa menambahkan side-bar tambahan disebelah kanan atau kiri dari blog kita. saat ini layout yang sering dipakai oleh para blogger adalah menempatkan dua buah sidebar disebelah kanan blog. tapi pada dasarnya semua sama yaitu menambahkan sebuah sidebar baru pada plog kita (bahkan kita bisa menambahkan banyak side-bar pada blog kita tergantung selera kita).

Oke kita mulai saja bagaimana menambahkan sebuah side-bar. pada tutorial ini dicontohkan hanya menambahkan satu side-bar baru, anda bebas menambahkan jumlah side-bar baru dengan meng-kustom kode tutorial dibawah. tutorial ini menggunakan template dengan side-bar default berada disebelah kanan.

Pertama anda login dulu ke blogger. Setelah masuk ke menu dasbor, klik TATA LETAK>>Edit HTML lalu pada EDIT TEMPLATE cari kode dibawah ini :

Nah nilai yang diberi warna merah merupakan nilai lebar untuk area posting, rubah oleh anda berdasarkan pembagian area di blog. Begini; apabila anda menambahkan sebuah side-bar tentu saja berarti blog anda di bagi menjadi 3 kolom, yaitu side-bar-1(sidebar default), main-wrapper (area dimana posting ditampilkan), dan side bar 2 (yang anda akan tambahkan). apabila anda ingin menyamakan semua lebar dari ketiga area tersebut maka setiap area diberi nilai 940 (nilai dari outer-wrapper) / 3 = 313px, tapi tentu saja anda bebas menentukan sendiri lebarnya! dan hal yang perlu diperhatikan area main-wrapper ini haruslah lebih besar dari area side-bar, karena area ini dimana posting ditampilkan, tapi tetap patokan untuk menentukan lebar dari ketiga area ini adalah semua nilai lebar dari ketiga area ini bila dijumlahkan sama dengan nilai lebar outer-wrapper. selanjutnya cari kode dibawah ini:

Mempartisi Area Footer Menjadi Beberapa Kolom

Anda pasti pernah melihat dimana sebuah blog yang pada area footernya dibagi menjadi beberapa kolom . Sebenarnya membagi atau mempartisi sebuah area pada blog tidaklah terlalu sulit bahkan untuk orang awam sekalipun. Nah pada posting saya akan memberikan tutorialnya kepada anda.

Sebelum anda memulainya back up dulu tamplate anda, dan baca posting sampai akhir untuk mengindari kesalahan. Juga pindahkan semua Widget yang berada di area footer ke area side bar.

Yang kedua adalah lebar tiap kolom, lihat kode diatas terdapat kode width: 50%;, nah value atau nilai ini bisa dirubah. sebagai contoh bila anda membagi footer menjadi 4 kolom, maka nilai atau value pada tiap skup atau area koding kolom adalah 25%, atau bisa juga menggunakan satuan pixel. contohnya apabila area footer blog anda adalah 600px, dan anda ingin membaginya menjadi 2 kolom maka nilai width pada tiap skup/area kode kolom adalah width=300px;. lihat kode dibawah:

Pada percobaan pertama saya dalam menambahkan tips koding ini, layout footer saya berantakan. bila anda mengalaminya coba modifikasi lagi kode diatas, biasanya masalah berasal dari pengisian nilai lebar kolom (width) yang kurang atau lebih.
Anda juga bisa menambahkan variabel-variabel (Warna area, border, dll) lain untuk memodifikasi are footer ini agar tampilanya lebih bagus.

Mungkin anda sebagai pemula anda akan bertanya betapa lamanya blog anda terindeks di mesin pencari (google), padahal anda telah menyisipkan meta tag yang notabene suatu syarat agar blog anda terindeks dengan cepat, dan lebih friendly dengan mesin pencari.
Faktanya, apabila anda mendaftarkan blog anda pada WEBMASTER TOOL'nya google, anda akan mendapatkan sebuah notifikasi atau peringatan bahwa di blog anda terdapat duplikasi meta-tag dan title. kenapa ini bisa terjadi? setelah saya mencari kesana sini, ternyata hal ini disebabkan pemakaian satu meta-tag dan title(yang anda sisipkan dan modifikasi tentunya) untuk semua alamat posting, makanya robot mesin pencari mengidintifikasi bahwa terdapat duplikasi meta-tag dan title. Dikarenakan duplikasi meta-tag seperti ini dianggap sebuah tindakan offensive dan ilegal, maka mesin pencari akan lama sekali mengindeks halaman-halaman posting blog anda, dan robot mesin pencari akan jarang sekali berkunjung ke blog anda, alhasil blog anda akan terjerembab di dasar daftar mesin pencari.

Mengganti Icon Blog di Blogger

Bagi anda para blogger, mungkin suatu saat anda merasa bosan dengan icon blogger yang selalu muncul di blog anda, dan anda ingin merubahnya! selain untuk menghilangkan rasa bosan, penggantian icon ini akan membedakan blog anda dengan blog orang lain. dan apabila icon anda sangat unik, bisa saja icon ini menjadi ciri khas dari blog anda. sebenarnya tips ini hanya tips lama, tapi bagi anda yang mungkin belum mengetahui cara merubah icon ini, saya akan memberikan caranya selangkah demi selangkah.

persiapkan sebuah image dengan ukuran yang direkomendasikan untuk icon yaitu 22x22 pixel atau 32x32 pixel (format direkomendasikan .gif), lalu upload ke album web online misal Album Web picasa. Setelah diupload copy alamat lokasi image tersebut(klik kanan>>properties di image tersebut). Anda juga bisa mengambil icon dari website lain! coba saja googling image dengan filter ukuran image kecil. lalu copy alamat lokasi dengan cara mengklik kanan image yang dikehendaki.

Setelah image telah sukses diupload, atau anda telah selesai googling image dan telah meng-copy alamat lokasi image tersebut, lalu anda sign in ke blogger! setelah anda masuk ke menu dasbor, lalu klik tab Tata Letak>>Edit HTML

Menampilkan baris kode di teks area posting

Pernahkah anda mengalami kesulitan ketika memposting sebuah artikel tutorial yang pada artikel tutorial itu menyertakan teks baris kode HTML untuk ditampilkan. Bukanya ditampilkan tapi malah baris kode tersebut menghilang ketika post tersebut dipublikasikan. Kalau anda familiar dengan bahasa pemrograman web anda pasti tahu kenapa hal ini bisa terjadi!!! Ya betul, baris kode tersebut saat dieksekusi tidak dianggap sebagai teks biasa atau istilah dalam bahasa pemrograman disebut string, tetapi dianggap sebagai kode baris perintah.

Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut kita hanya perlu mengganti karakter < dan > dengan karakter pengganti. Intinya adalah seperti ini:

Menyisipkan meta tag pada blog di blogger

Meta tag adalah elemen HTML atau XHTML yang digunakan untuk memberikan struktur metadata sebuah halaman web. Elemen seperti itu harus ditempatkan diantara bagian tag head atau judul dari sebuah dokumen HTML atau XHTML. Elemen meta tag ini digunakan untuk menentukan deskripsi halaman, kata kunci dan lain lain.

Kecuali kita memang tidak punya kepentingan atau keinginan untuk mencapai rangking teratas di mesin pencari, maka tidak soal apabila meta tag ini tidak disisipkan pada halaman anda, tapi apabila pringkat di mesin pencari adalah penting bagi anda dengan berbagai alasan maka penyisipan meta tag ini diwajibkan, karena peran dari tag kata kunci (keyword) benar-benar bermain penting karena algoritma dari mesin pencari dalam mengindex hasil pencarian tergantung dari tag ini.

Tapi seperti yang kita ketahui, secara default meta tag seperti tag deskripsi, tag keyword, dll tidak ditambahkan pada template di blog blogger. Padahal meta tag ini suatu hal yang penting ada pada blog atau situs.
Tapi hal ini tidaklah tidak mungkin dilakukan. Untuk menyisipkan meta tag anda harus sign ini dulu. Setelah anda masuk klik tab TATA LETAK>>EDIT HTML

Menukar posisi tag judul konten dan tag judul blog

Judul Tag merupakan teks yang ditampilkan dalam panel bagian atas jendela browser. Ia adalah salah satu bagian penting dari halaman web. Keterkaitan antara title tag dengan mesin pencari(search engine) adalah; dikarenakan mesin pencarian menetapkan kata-kata dalam judul tag pada hasil pencarian, sehingga judul tag yang penting atau memiliki nilai bobot yang tinggi akan ditampilkan paling awal.

Nah permasalahan yang muncul adalah; untuk blog secara default posisi tag judul blog berada didepan tag judul. Lihat gambar.

Menuruk artikel-artikel yang saya baca kondisi seperti itu merugikan blog situs/ blog kita pada saat pencarian oleh mesin pencari. Untuk itu direkomendasikan tag judul konten berada didepan tag title blog. Sebagai contoh lihat gambar.

Yang saya suka dari artikel ini adalah secara konsisten apa yang di tulis di terapkan juga secara nyata oleh Mr. Steve Pavalina sehingga meraih rangking pertama di google.
Berikut adalah tips untuk membangun traffic di situs web anda menurut steve pavalina + penyederhanaan dan tambahan-tambahan oleh saya sendiri

1. Buat konten yang berharga.

Apakah konten Anda layak dibaca oleh jutaan orang? Ingat bahwa tujuan konten adalah untuk menyediakan sesuatu yang bermanfaat kepada orang lain. Apakah anda memberikan konten bermanfaat, dan terbaik yang mampu anda buat?
Bayangkan diri anda sedang berdiri di panggung konser dan di lihat oleh jutaan orang. Kemudian tanyakan pada diri sendiri, "Apa yang harus anda katakan kepada jutaan orang ini?"
Kalau anda sering ke acara konser atau pensi dan semacamnya ada pasti pernah melihat dimana artis atau band di lempari atau diteriaki WHOOO karena para penonton tidak puas, dan akhirnya mereka pulang lebih awal dari rencana. Sebaliknya apabila sang artis atau band memberikan kepuasan kepada penonton, bahkan apabila sang artis atau band itu memberikan sesuatu yang lebih yang membuat jutaan penonton merasa ketagihan untuk melakukan hal itu maka apabila sang artis atau band melakukan konser dimana saja maka tidak mungkin penonton-penonton itu akan pergi lagi ke acara konser band atau artis tersebut.
Anda pernah mengunjungi situs atau blog yang didalamnya memuat trik bagaimana caranya agar anda bisa ber-GPRS, tanpa pulsa anda tersedot sedikitpun? Kalau anda pernah anda pasti tahu bagai mana selalu banyaknya pengunjung ke situs-situs tersebut walaupun layout-nya berantakan dan bikin pusing. Mengapa bisa? karena trik-trik tersebut merupakan konten yang sangat berharga (walaupun hal ini sebenarnya sebuah aksi ilegal)! Makanya hal ini terus dicari, dan para pengunjung secara rutin mengunjungi situs-situs tersebut.
Selain itu pikirkan juga efek dari tulisan anda ada pada manusia (psikologi manusia). Sebagai contoh saya menulis bisnis online di internet, maka saya menulis artikel-artikel untuk memberikan semangat kepada masyarakat yang tidak memiliki pekerjaan, dan merasa frustasi karena sampai saat ini belum memiliki pekerjaan. Saya ingin orang berpikir, untuk meningkatkan kesadaran mereka, dan untuk membantu mereka menghilangkan rasa stress, frustasi, dan pesimis. Jika apa yang saya tulis tidak mengubah orang menjadi berpikir, bertindak, atau menjadi sadar, maka nilai-nilai yang disisipkan pada artikel atau tulisan yang saya buat tidak cukup baik.
Sebuah konten yang kuat haruslah bernilai universal dan berkualitas. Ingat kualitas lebih penting daripada kuantitas. Namun lebih mudah menggunakan strategi kuantitas tanpa kualitas, makanya banyak orang yang menggunakan strategi ini, (membuat puluhan atau ratusan posting baru perminggu yang isinya hanya sampah tapi menyisipkan banyak keyword, description, tag-tag dan lainya, hal ini dilakukan untuk meningkatakan SEO/ search engine optimazion dan meningkatkan ranking di search engine terutama di google). Namun, situs di internet dengan strategi kuantitas dapat menyerap banyak pengunjung (hal ini terjadi dikarenakan dia berada pada top rangking di tiap search engine), tetapi akan selalu ada tempat untuk konten berkualitas diluar dominasi lingkaran situs-situs berstrategikan kuantitas.

2. Buat konten asli/ original.

Butuh usaha lebih menghasilkan konten asli (bukan kutipan atau plagiat), tapi ini merupakan pilihan strategi jangka panjang. Kita harus berfikir situs yang anda kelola menjadi tujuan akhir, bukan tengkulak/ distributor (persimpangan sementara sebelum pengunjung akhirnya berkunjung ke situs akhir yang menciptakan posting asli dari konten tersebut).
Sebagai contoh kita membuat post menyangkut sebuah produk, dan menyalin sebagian dari deskripsi tentang produk tersebut (hal ini pernah saya lakukan). Tapi apa yang terjadi, namanya juga nyontek, kebanyakan pengunjung tidak puas dan tidak tertarik akan konten tersebut, walaupun pengunjung tersebut tertarik akan produk tersebut, maka ia akan mencari situs lain yang berkaitan dengan produk tersebut. Dan ingat dengan hal ini sampai kapanpun anda akan kalah rangking di search engine oleh situs yang memposting produk tersebut (yang notabene merupakan sumber contekan kita atau situs yang terlebih dulu mencontek)
Apabila anda membuat posting asli/ original dan mereka akhirnya tertarik akan artikel tersebut, yang terjadi adalah meraka tak ke mana-mana untuk sementara waktu (tidak melakukan klik link lain atau aktifitas lainya yang membuat situs anda di abaikan) dikarenakan mereka akan membaca lebih serius lagi terhadap posting yang kita buat (seperti anda saat ini sedang membaca posting ini, saya yakin anda tidak melakukan aktifitas lain selain membaca post ini dikarenakan teks ini berada di tengah-tengah posting yang lumayan panjang, butuh waktu untuk seseorang sampai membaca pada teks ini). Keuntungan lainya adalah pengunjung akan mengunjungi mengunjungi artikel ini lagi dikarenakan banyak hal (belum tuntas membaca artikel ini, atau jaringan internet terputus sebelumnya).

3. Buat konten abadi.

Alangkah bagusnya apabila apapun yang kita tulis ini masih dapat dibaca oleh orang bahkan setelah kita mati.
Sebagai contoh, seperti yang telah dicontohkan diatas tentang situs atau blog yang memuat trik GPRS gratis, suatu saat konten yang memuat hal tersebut akan mati dan di tinggalkan oleh pengunjung setianya, dikarenakan trik tersebut apabila sudah diketahui oleh pihak provider, dan pihak provider telah berhasil mengatasi bugs/ masalah tersebut otomatis konten terebut akan mati! karena sudah tidak berguna. Walaupun si pengelola akan memposting konten mengenai trik yang baru yang masih bisa digunakan, tapi tetap konten lama yang oleh provider telah berhasil diatasi bugs/ masalah tersebut, tidak bisa terselamatkan.
Akankah konten yang anda buat hari ini masih dapat memberikan manfaat di tahun berikutnya tanpa batasan waktu (tidak lekang oleh waktu)?

4. Menulis untuk manusia pertama, kedua komputer.

Banyak artikel ditulis tentang strategi yang optimal untuk meningkatkan peringkat di mesin pencari dengan cara frekuensi konten posting yang sangat panjang. Tetapi menurut Steve Pavalina situsnya menjadi besar karena mengabaikan nasihat-nasihat tersebut.
Apakah anda pernah melihat sebuah konten di situs atau blog yang terus menerus menuliskan sebuah kata? Sudah dapat ditebak artikel ini artikel dengan konten sampah. Kata –kata yang diulang tersebut adalah keyword, keyword ini diulang-ulang agar bisa dikenali dan terkenal di mesin pencari (kalau tidak salah hal ini menyangkut kecocokan antara meta keyword, dan keyword konten). Nah anda pasti bisa menebak konten ini ditulis dan dipostingkan bukan untuk dibaca manusia tapi untuk para alien hahahahaha (sory bercanda, bukan alien tapi sebenarnya untuk mengakali robot mesin pencari).
Sebaiknya kita menulis ketika kita telah menemukan sesuatu yang berarti yang layak untuk kita posting di situs kita. Post artikel sebanyak yang diperlukan. Kita tidak harus menetapkan kuota (seperti yang direkomndasikan beberapa situs bahwa minimal kita harus memposting 20 artikel per minggu, gila aja mereka emangnya kita pemilik surat kabar yang punya banyak reporter dan redaksi), kalau saran ini dilakukan coba kita hitung berarti perbulan kita memposting sebanyak 20 x 4 = 80, dan setahun berarti 80 x 12 = 916, gila bukan bayangkan saja nantinya blog kita layoutnya sangat berantakan karena terlalu banyak link posting yang kita buat, dan ingat dengan target tersebut anda pasti asal saja menulis artikel, yang penting target terpenuhi. Standar dari entri blog yang disarankan adalah 1500-2000 kata, dan beberapa entri yang lebih panjang (seperti artikel ini) yang memuat konten lebih banyak. Banyak blogger sukses akan merekomendasikan untuk menulis entri singkat (250-750 kata) dan memposting artikel sesering mungkin (20x per minggu), karena lebih banyak artikel di posting membuat mesin pencari lebih mengenal blog tersebut (dikarenakan apa yang disebut dengan indexing page/ halaman kita yang sudah terdaftar di mesin pencari), tapi abaikan saja nasihat mereka. Untuk melakukan strategi-strategi tersebut maka akan banyak mengganggu strategi tentang nilai asli dan membuat konten abadi yang telah dijelaskan diatas.
Tapi anda akan merasa kecewa terlebih dahulu apabila anda secara konsisten menggunakan trik-trik ini, karena, traffic di mesin pencari akan cukup rendah dibandingkan dengan blogger lainnya. Google adalah referal no.1 bagi kita untuk bisa meningkatkan traffic. Tetapi saya mencatat kontribusinya bagi blog hanya 1,5% dari total traffic, seperti anda tahu saya menerapkan strategi original dan konten yang abadi. Sebagian besar traffic blog ini berasal dari ribuan link di website lain (backlink, sederhananya blog kita mempunyai pintu masuk di ribuan website lain sehingga banyak pengunjung blog ini berasal dari website lain) dan permintaan langsung (langsung mengetikan alamat blog ini). Akhirnya situs atau blog anda akan tumbuh karena banyak orang lain berbicara tentang situs ini dan merekomendasikanya, baik secara online atau offline, salah satunya melaui situs sosial bookmark seperti del.icio.us, digg.com, dan reddit.com yang memberikan komentar dan rekomendasi pribadi mengenai sebuah blog/ situs.

5. Ketahuilah mengapa anda ingin situs anda memiliki traffic yang tinggi.

Saya menulis karena tujuan saya adalah untuk membantu masyarakat menjadi sadar bahwa walaupun anda tidak mempunyai pekerjaan, skill anda rendah, dan selalu gagal dalam berbisnis anda tetap bisa memulai suatu bisnis yang bisa dijadikan sebagai penopang hidup secara finansial. Saya tidak memiliki pekerjaan atau karier selain ini. Karena saya bekerja digerakkan oleh tujuan ini. Makanya secara konsisten saya membaca banyak literatur yang berkaitan dengan bisnis internet, mencobanya, mereviewnya untuk anda para pengangguran yang putus asa (maaf bila saya berlebihan tapi saya sempat mengalaminya). Dan memberikan semua itu tanpa mengharapkan imbalan apapun dari anda.
Saya membaca dan menelaah inti dari tips ke 5 ini berulang-ulang (mulanya saya kesulitan untuk memahami apa yang ingin disampaikan oleh Mr. Steve Pavalina di tips ke-5 ini), intinya seperti ini, saat situs kita telah mencapai traffic yang tinggi bahkan mencapai top rank di mesin pencari (dengan ini kita mempunya modal untuk mempengaruhi jutaan orang di dunia)!, kita akan dihadapkan pada 2 kondisi, kondisi yang pertama adalah kita memanfaatkan ketenaran situs kita untuk hal lain yang dimotivasi oleh keinginan selain motifasi awal kita membangun situs. Atau tetap konsisten pada motifasi awal.
Sebagai contoh setelah situs kita mencapai traffic yang tinggi lalu kita tergiur untuk memanfaatkanya untuk mempromosikan banyak produk, dengan memposting artikel diluar tema awal, menambahkan banyak iklan (sehingga membuat waktu load ke situs kita lebih lama dari biasanya), dan lainya yang mungkin akan menghancurkan reputasi situs yang telah dibangun dan terkenal akan motivasi awal.
Jadi apa motivasi anda untuk terus membangun traffic di situs anda?

6. Biarkan audiens melihat nyata Anda.

Bila memungkinkan posting beberapa konten tentang cerita pribadi di situs ini, termasuk pengalaman yang paling menyakitkan dan sulit. Tapi hal ini jangan dijadikan seperti curhatan pribadi anak abg yang menulis cerita-cerita pribadinya di diary. Konten yang dimaksud adalah dibuat untuk memberikan pengalaman kepada orang lain bahwa disaat anda mengalami keterpurukan sekalipun anda tetap bisa survive, dan jadikan diri anda inspirasi bagi orang lain.
Dengan anda memposting konten tentang diri anda, maka tidak mungkin orang lain juga akan mengirimkan kepada anda cerita tentang diri mereka. Apabila hal ini terjadi balas dengan memposting pengalaman mereka di situs kita (apabila anda anggap ceritanya sangat membangun dan menginspirasi banyak orang, tentunya dengan permintaan izin terlebih dahulu).
Inti dari semua ini adalah membangun komunikasi dan hubungan personal antara anda sebagai pengelola situs dan pengunjung sebagai audience. Buat agar situs anda menjadi teman dan rekan bagi para pengunjung, sehingga hilang perasaan bahwa mereka hanya membuka sebuah lembaran data di mesin yang bukan makhluk hidup. Jadikan situs anda seperti hidup dan para pengunjung menganggap anda eksis (bukan seseorang misterius yang memakai topeng yang tidak lebih dari sebuah mesin mati).

7. Menulis apa yang anda yakin benar dan kuasai.

Dengan mengambil tema bisnis internet (sebagai contoh), saya menulis hanya konten bertemakan bisnis yang saya kuasai, dan apabila menulis diluar tema tersebut, kontenya saya yakini bahwa itu benar. Jadi disini anda dituntut untuk jujur. Tetapi semua terserah anda, karena mungkin saja dengan anda menulis beberapa artikel bohong semacam gosip, dan sesuatu hal yang kontrofersial (seperti yang disarankan oleh beberapa blogger sukses yang rada nyeleneh dalam meningkatkan rating situs mereka) situs anda bisa mendadak jadi terkenal. Tapi ingat dengan kejujuran konten anda akan bertahan lama..........
Jangan takut menuangkan persepsi, pendapat atau, pandangan anda terhadap suatu hal, walaupun itu tidak sama dengan kebanyakan orang. Yang terpenting itu jujur dan keluar dari pemikiran anda sendiri (walaupun mungkin akan banyak orang yang akan membenci anda)
Banyak yang menulis mengenai pentingnya transparansi dalam blogging, dan kebenaran adalah yang terbaik dari semua transparansi. Kebenaran menciptakan kepercayaan. Bahkan orang-orang berkata bahwa mereka membenci anda akan tetap kembali, dan akhirnya orang-orang akan menjadi pendukung anda. Bahkan jika mereka tidak setuju dengan Anda, mereka akan percaya bahwa anda mempunyai tujuan yang mulia, dan kepercayaan adalah lebih penting daripada perjanjian.
