SEO Myths and Facts

In the decade or so since the search engine was first invented, the field of Search Engine Optimization
has evolved. Some obsolete information and old wives' tales still persist, and these can damage your standings.

The myths and obsolete techniques fall into a few broad categories:

- Keyword density: There are many number of magic formulas touted on the internet, claiming that if you reach the perfect number of keyword instances per page, your rankings will go up. While you do need to have the keyword somewhere in your text in order to have your stated keywords considered relevant, artificially inflating the number of instances is a bad plan. First, it simply decreases the quality of your content. Second, the search engines may begin classifying your site as too spammy, and actually downgrade your rating.

- Tags and META: Loading keywords into your page headers and the meta data of your site is also an old trick that's now likely to get you classified as spammy. Only keywords that are relevant to your content and specific to what your users are searching for should be included.

- Links: Some fraudulent SEO services, and some outdated pieces of advice, will associate your website with link exchange systems and link farms. Since the search engines keep track of these farms and exchanges, and using them is considered trickery, being part of them can actually significantly downgrade your rating.

- Submission to search engines: Once upon a time, submitting your site to search engines was a long and arduous process, which was nonetheless necessary to get a good place in the rankings. These days, search engine submission is generally not needed at all, since the engines automatically search for new sites. If they don't find yours quickly, manual submission is quite easy and there are a few top search engines that have most of the market share.

Conversely, there are a few relevant and current strategies for climbing the ranks of search results. (It should come as no surprise that these are broader and more difficult or time-consuming to implement than the myths would suggest.)

- Unique content: Consistently offering high quality content that is valuable to your users, unique on the web, and from original sources is by far the best way to attract users - and search engines - to your site. If your site consists of copy, providing a unique value in information filtering, commentary and analysis, or other user-friendly services.

- Voice of authority: Along with unique content, offering an authoritative voice is a good way to increase your links and therefore your page ranking. Either become an authority yourself or offer interviews, quotes, or guest content by noted authorities in your field. If well-respected people and organizations recommend or reference your site, your popularity will rise.

- Professional networking for link sharing: As a web master, blogger, marketer, or business owner, professional contacts matter for a wide range of activities. Additionally, you may ask these people to link their sites with yours, or to provide expert and authoritative content for your site.

- Crawler files: Having a robots.txt file that is updated, accurate, and properly configured can make your site easier to catalogue correctly. Building the site's architecture in a crawler-friendly manner can give your site a slight edge that may be worth pursuing. Do remember that search engine developers are concerned with their users and serving them appropriate content. They're smart enough to outwit most technical tricks.

Don't Make the Top 30 SEO Mistake

By: Michael Murray

SEO consultants will tell you that you need to be in the Top 30 or you can pretty much give up any hope of getting a visitor to your web site.

Yes, there is truth in that Top 30 goal. Occasionally, a potential customer will make his or her way to the #30 position in search of a particular product or service. The odds just aren't that high.

Yet, industry research and ongoing search engine user behavior analysis shows that most people will focus on the first few results. Who can blame them? It takes a great deal of patience to wade through the rest of the options.

It's going to mean a great deal more if you can get that prized search term in the Top 10 (first screen) or even the Top 3 or Top 5 with the right SEO marketing strategies.

With so much competition, is that even possible? Yes - if you're realistic. Here's the key: don't spend an inordinate amount of time in the single keyword "cars" if you offer something more specific, such as "automotive accessories." You stand a much better chance of getting that coveted top spot with a more reasonable search phrase.

Don't ignore those single words if they really represent what you do. Generally, single words have a fighting chance if other SEO factors are rooting for you along the way, including pages with lots of content, options to include content up high, other pages featuring the same keyword, a domain name with the keyword, a page name with the keyword and plenty of link popularity built around the keyword. You just have to tie it all together.

Obviously, fewer people search for "automotive accessories" than "cars." But you'll be able to reach more search engine users - and prospective customers - if you frame most of your SEO strategy around specific search engine phrases that adequately reflect what you do. The Worst SEO Mistakes You Can Make

By: SEOSapien

Everyone wants their websites to be search engine optimized, or SEO-friendly. However, there are some common errors that people make when they're doing SEO work on their site, and these errors can actually cost them that highly coveted top ten ranking that everyone wants. Here are some things to avoid when doing SEO work on your website.

Remember the ALT tags! Almost every image on your website (not including the background and any images that serve as buttons and the like) needs to have ALT text. This is the text that shows up if the image doesn't load. More importantly, however, it's the text that tells search engines what the image is since the programs can't actually see the picture. A good ALT tag will include two or three of your keywords, and it's a great place to stick in extra keywords that the viewer will (hopefully, unless your image is missing) never see.

Don't use the same title tag on every page of your site. While it may be easy to simply write one title for your homepage and then leave it on every page, this is another place where you're losing out on a place to stick keywords. Vary the title for each page so that search engines will notice the difference, and try to include different keywords for different pages.

Avoid scripts! While Flash and the like are becoming more compatible with search engines, it's still difficult for more search engines to see inside Flash objects. This means you're losing places to put meta tags, ALT tags, and more.

Don't just write for robots. While writing articles with a high keyword density might get your page ranked higher by the search engine, it's going to send actual human readers away. They don't want to read anything redundant or clumsy. "Our furniture store in London provides great furniture for London residents looking for furniture designed specifically for London" is going to either annoy readers or make them laugh at the horrible writing. Be sure your SEO phrases and such can be integrated into the text seamlessly so they don't stand out and don't over-use them.

Also, actually write your website text yourself (or hire someone to write it). Don't plagiarize - don't copy and paste text off of one website and put it on yours without making it clear where the text came from. Too much duplicate text on your page will be flagged by search engines.

Likewise, avoid any bad SEO practices like hidden text or keyword stuffing. Hidden text refers to adding a ton of keywords at the bottom of a website and then making them the same color as the background, effectively hiding them from viewers. Search engines still see them, however. In the past, this was a technique that did actually make search engines rank sites higher, but today's robots are smart enough to recognize this technique and ignore it. Likewise, keyword stuffing, or making a webpage that's almost nothing but keywords, raises a number of flags in search engine robots and may actually get your pages ranked lower.

Finally, make certain all of your links describe where they're going. No one likes to click links that aren't clearly described by the surrounding text or give a good idea of their target. Plus, links are another factor a search engine uses to determine site relevancy, so not clearly marking them is detrimental in several ways.

SEO Tactics Revealed

By : Jack

Though there are many different theories out there regarding what makes the best SEO technique, when it comes to some issues that will work against your SEO efforts, there are some issues where everyone agrees. Among these, the most prominent are:

· Not having a web page title

· Using too many graphics, images, or flash animation on a given web page

· Having a menu system that is prohibitively complex

It is extremely important that every web page on your site has a title. Without providing a

descriptive title that is search engine optimization with the right keywords, you'll not only hurt your ranking, but you'll turn visitors away. Consider it the equivalent to owning a store without a sign and with blackened windows.

To make sure that you're doing your best on that level, make certain that each web page on your

site has its own unique title that is specific to its content. Try to make sure that it includes the

primary keyword for that page, to ensure proper SEO for search engine spiders.

By using too many graphics, images, or flash animation, you may be pleasing the eye, but search engine spiders won't see it the same way. Search engines focus on the text content of your

website. Their spiders crawl through your site looking for text, keywords, and other indications

of purpose.

They cannot, however, understand images or flash animations, nor will they ever understand their appeal. Therefore, though images are great ways to add appeal to your visitor's adding too much to any given web page, you're decreasing the value of your search engine optimization
.

To reduce this problem, try to create a balance on your page where the text content is given the true priority, and images, graphics, and flash animations are only a compliment, not a focus for the page. You can also help your website by adding alt tags to each of your images so that you are providing the search engine spiders with a bit of text, even when it's an image that

actually shows up on the page.

The menu system of your website is the key to being able to properly navigate around it. Search engine spiders are typically considered to be relatively basic programs and struggle with anything but the most primitive menu systems.

For example, if your menu involves JavaScript or a Java applet, the search engine spider will not be able to recognize any of the features, and will not be capable of properly navigating the site. Certainly, these can be very appealing to people, but search engine spiders don't have the same ability to interpret the features of a website as people do.

For proper search engine optimization, a simple textual link is your best option as it is the

easiest for a search engine spider to understand. It makes your site much more likely to be seen in full by the spider, and therefore receive the best indexing and ranking results.

Furthermore, the majority of the time, an extremely complicated menu system can quickly be replicated and implemented using textual links and CSS. This will make an enormous difference in your SEO results, and will be welcomed by all of your visitors who are still using dial-up and other slow connections.

If you must use a complex menu or site navigation system, then make sure that you at least

provide a site map that is readily available via a text link from the home page. This site map

should use text to clearly link to every one of the other pages of your web site. This way, even if a spider is unable to use your regular menu system, it will be able to reach all of the pages by way of the site map.

Refraining from working against your own SEO efforts due to simple errors, and will enjoy much larger amounts of traffic to your website.

Want to Increase Traffic to your Website using Articles

By: SEO Traffic Spider

One always wants to drive traffic to their website or blog on a daily basis. This is normally achieved by performing various SEO traffic techniques that help in driving traffic by either doing it yourself or hiring an expert. In the former case, you will end up spending too much time doing it yourself as the processes are time consuming and cumbersome while in the latter case you will save on time but end up spending a lot of money to the provider.

However, there is one technique that can achieve a lot of traffic without having to spend too much or investing a lot of time. Article Writing!

Now the next question that may come to your mind is how does Article Writing drive traffic? It’s quite simple! The Internet comprises of a lot of information and there are millions of visitors, researchers and webmasters who are looking out for content for their blogs and websites. They have a choice where they can either create their own content or search on the Internet for a good quality article which they can utilize easily and quickly. This is exactly where you come in.

This article will describe the points that you need to keep in mind while writing your article:

Choosing the Right Headline:
It is important to create a headline that is appealing. A catchy headline will attract the attention of the viewer and will appeal them to read the article.

Preferred Word Count:
A good article is one that can convey a message, strategy and tips in 500 to 750 words. Making an article too long will dilute the attention of the reader and may be considered as a drag.

Preferred Software:
The best software is Microsoft Word as it has a spell check, word count option, synonyms option, etc. If you don’t have Word, you can use Open Office Word (which is free) or you can use Notepad.

Resource Box:
This is where one hits the bulls-eye. Use this box to the maximum possible extent. Write about the author, place a link of your website, add a freebie if possible, create a call to action phrase (Download now, Submit now, Click here, Submit here, etc).

Editing the Master Piece:
Once you have written your article, don’t forget to proofread and edit it. Ensure that the article is grammatically correct and free of any spelling mistakes, etc.

Now that you are done with writing the article, the next step would be to find an online website where you can submit your article. In this way you will be able to create an online archive of all your articles. If the site has an article content management system, then it will be excellent as it automates the submission of the article to your website.

Strategies for building the traffic through the article

* This involves submitting your article to the top page rank article submission directories that will publish your article on their website.
* Create a blog if you don’t have one and post the article there.
* You can register with Yahoo Groups and post your articles there as well.
* Create an eBook on a collection of articles that relate to a topic and give it away for free. When you give it away for free, you are actually engaging in viral marketing which brings in wide exposure.
* Add the article to your website and if possible do generate some extra revenue by adding Google AdSense to it.
* You can also create an e-course on the articles that you have written and send it out through an auto-responder. Example, Free Auto Bot.
* Use any social media to build awareness around your article.
* Submit your article to various article announcement groups. For example, Yahoo Groups. These groups give a lot of eyeballs to your article as they can be used on their own websites.

By adopting the techniques listed above, you will be able to get loads of incoming links which boosts traffic and also the performance of your website.

Choosing a SEO Friendly Domain Name

By : SEO Traffic Spider

Only a few years back, you could be a successful entrepreneur without the need of a website. And the reason for this was very simple, before the nineties there was no Internet! With the introduction of the Internet, things changed drastically. And nowadays, it is impossible to even think of a globally successful enterprise that does not have an online presence. But what is more important is the fact, that just the presence of a visually appealing, information rich and well crafted website is not enough to get your company noticed on the internet. It has to be correctly marketed online through certain procedures so that it is prominently indexed by search engines. This is the primary reason why SEO or Search Engine Optimization has become such an important key to Internet business success.

We all know the importance of search engine rankings these days. Therefore, choosing a SEO friendly domain name means that you have started on the right note in the virtual world. One of the crucial roles in search engine rankings is played by domain names related to keywords that focus on your business and website. It definitely goes a long way in attracting target audience, getting increased conversions and generating business.

The process of choosing the right domain name needs careful considerations and deliberations, when you are thinking of starting a new website. And this is especially important if search engine optimization is going to be the main tool for directing traffic to your website. A SEO friendly domain name is one of the key factors that contribute to the success of the website. Therefore, you have to keep in mind the objective of your website and accordingly choose targeted keywords that you are planning to use to get top search engine rankings for your site. Inserting the main keywords of your business into the URL is a good idea. This is because not only is your website theme kept same throughout but Google, too, looks favorably on it.

Now, let us see what the different factors are that can be adopted to make a SEO friendly domain name.

Keywords in the Domain Name
Keywords play the role of a catalyst in a domain name. Though the keywords themselves do not constitute the entire process of SEO but they definitely contribute in making the entire procedure happen at a much faster rate.

Stick with the “.com”
The top level domain or TLD remains the most popular extension for a domain name. A .com domain definitely allows credibility boost. It is the most widely accepted extension. Of course, we can’t neglect that there are a lot of successful websites that end with a “.net”, “.uk”, or a “.biz”, but at the same time a .com extension by far is the most recalled one. If your business happens to be a new one, do you really want your customers to forget all about you just because they recalled to type in a “.com” instead of your “.edu”, and as a result couldn’t go back to your site! However, there are certain exceptions to this rule, especially if your business is geographically constrained and targets only local customers, in that case a “.au” will work as well.

Shorter and Catchier

It is best to have a domain name that is short and catchy. It is easier for visitors to recall and remember these. And you definitely don’t want a website that loses out on traffic because the domain name is too long, tricky or complicated to remember. Short names can also be typed more easily. Ensure that your domain
name is easy to remember and easy to type.

No Hyphens or Numbers
Use of hyphenated or numbered domain names should be avoided. This is because it creates complications. Most often than not such domain names are forgotten easily, because it can’t be recalled where exactly the hyphen or the number has to be placed. You may end up losing your customers to other similar named websites, who do not use a hyphen or a number. And more often than not, hyphenated domain names sound like cheap substitutes of the real thing.

Type-In Traffic
This is when someone simply arrives at a particular website by just typing what they are searching for in their URL bar, and add a “.com” at the end. And a lot of people actually do that! Therefore, if you can choose a domain name that has an exact match keyword then you have better chances of receiving traffic. Also these kinds of domain names have better SEO benefits going for them.

Choosing a domain name that is SEO friendly can work wonders for your business by attracting lots of visitors to your website. With a heavy inflow of traffic, there are better chances of increases in conversion. All this definitely contributes in making your business a success.

SEO For Small Businesses

By: seosapien

It seems like times are always tough for small businesses, but no time is worse than during a recession. During a recession, many businesses try to cut back on as much as possible, but when does cutting back start to hurt the company? One of the places this question is most often applied is to the question of SEO. Should a small business pay for SEO when money is tight?

Unfortunately, many small businesses axe their advertising budget first. While this can be a good place to save a little bit of money, if businesses completely cut their advertising, they will not be able to attract new clients. Without new clients, there's little they can do to make more money. While word of mouth may help somewhat, it's not as effective as a marketing blitz.

While web marketing is cheaper than doing offline marketing, there are still costs involved. However, you may get a much higher return on your investment since you're able to more deeply analyze how well your marketing is doing. Since websites allow users to track where their traffic comes from, it's easier to identify and cut any online marketing that is not working. To this end, small businesses should not immediately cut their SEO budget when times get tight.

Some small businesses may not have even invested in SEO yet, and these businesses may be asking why they should spend the money. However, those small business owners may not recognize just how great a return they can get on their SEO. A huge return on investment is everything in a recession, and doing SEO is ranked as one of the top ROI solutions.

By selecting specific keywords and phrases, you're very specifically targeting your audience. While ads in magazines may get a lot of attention, you never really know if your target audience is viewing the ad or if it is being viewed by someone who will never purchase your product. SEO, however, makes certain your website is being viewed by those who are looking for what you offer. It brings in more than just quantity; it brings in quality visitors and provides them with information about your website right away.

When it comes to dealing with SEO, small businesses have a few choices. They can either handle the SEO themselves or they can hire a professional SEO company. The first is obviously the most budget-friendly; however, if you and your employees don't understand the basics of doing SEO, you may end up wasting your time. Fortunately, you can learn the basics of SEO fairly quickly.

Paying a company to do SEO, especially if the company is thorough and completely redesigns your website from the ground up to be fully optimized, may be out of your price range. Many small businesses simply can't afford this. However, having an expert in SEO look at your pages can be helpful. Outsourcing only part of the SEO process can be helpful. For example, you may want to hire a professional SEO writer to create content for your website after you determine the keywords yourself.

The SEO Rip-off Search Engine Optimization

By : Sonu Seo

I decided to write this article as a result of many e-mails. It seems more and more people are victims of bad SEO. The main complaint is that they are paying entirely too much for little or no results. In addition, many are in the grip of bad SEO practices. If you plan to rent a pro SEO in the future, I suggest you use this article as a set of guidelines.

Before going to any person or business Seo Services , proceed as follows:

A) Learn how to set up and tested an SEO firm before you negotiate.

Do they have a strong client list under their belt?

Are they published?

B) Consider their portfolios.

What kind of results have they produced?

Contact a few of their customers. Are they satisfied with the work done?

C) To review and confirm their methods?

How are they going to optimize your site to access your keywords?

Did they use organic methods? Some individuals or companies use doorway pages, hide text in the background, use the re-orients the blacklist and other methods. Stay away from these values.

D) Get at least three different proposals for SEO.

Look carefully each. Are there any similarities? Proposals will help you to see which companies are honest and who are trying to sell you something you do not need.

What is the cost? The cheapest is not always the best, however, the highest price may not be attached to a comprehensive and viable course of action. Try to find to find a person or organization that will give you what you want in your SEO budget.

E) of the contract, contract, contract.

Get everything in writing. Search on the document carefully. Make sure it covers everything you mentioned, including methods of achieving your desired results. Have copies signed by the two sides. If employment is a big, you may want to consult a lawyer.

F) Clearly state the terms of payment.

While most SEO shall do no work for free or agree to a salary scale for results, many SEO professionals will not shy away from a more performance series of incentives. I am not a strong supporter prepaid contracts .. Most SEO professionals will abide by the 50% front, 50% on completion norm. Make sure that all the financial terms are clearly set out in your contract that the real work. This will protect all parties involved in a case where the expectations are not met.

In all, try to do your best to educate you on SEO. Have a basic knowledge of the terminology and SEO Expert SEO methodology. Anyone offering SEO should not have a problem explaining how they intend to achieve results. If they fail earn your trust or raise a red flag for whatever reason, keep searching. You will eventually find someone who will help you achieve your goals for a fair price. Happy hunting.

Fast, Effective And Entirely Free Ways To Get A Website Included in Google Within 24 hours

(….or 72 Hours To Be On The Safe Side!)

It’s not a great secret, but you would be hard pressed to find any SEO or marketing company to give you their ‘secret’ ways to delivering a website into a search engine such as Google, in as little as a day or two. In fact you would be hard pressed really to find any comprehensive guide, studying the ways and wherefores of how to actually list a website in the natural organic listings so quickly.

Yes, we have all read the free study guides on how to submit a website, we have all been to the submission links of the major search engines and blasted our sites URL off into the never never world.

But, if you didn’t already know, and you probably didn’t if you have read this far – there are at least 100 different ways I can think of right now, on the spot, that can get a perfectly new URL actually listed in Google in a day, give or take a day!

These ways are free, with there being no cash involved you will be pleased to hear, and will certainly see your website up there in lights (well at least for your website name anyway). These are not ways or mechanisms to get top rankings, these are not way to suddenly drive hundreds and thousands of new visitors to your website. These are simply ways to get the site listed, without the need to use any free search engine submission link as provided by the almighty Google or Yahoo.

So, if you have your notepads and pens I shall begin:

1. Have you twittered or tweeted lately? Well start now, if you have not already got a Twitter account my suggestion is to sign up today. Get yourself a lovely Twitter name as your website address, and in your profile provide a lovely link to your URL. After this, go and find 50 people (in any industry – some people would say you must be focussed, but at the end of the day you just want your site listed – so find 50 people in any topic area), follow them and then sure as mustard within a few hours some of them will be following you back. Why doe this help? Because new Twitter accounts invariably get listed in record time, and the more people following you the higher the chances of that being picked up. Then your link to your website sees the spiders (that’s the search engine spiders by the way!) racing to it.

2. Free press release site, yes yes, you have heard it all before. Use press releases to get your website listed yarda yarda yarda. Well listen up, because I am going to give you one HUGE tip and recommendation, write yourself a nice little press release. It doesn’t matter if your English is bad, is worse than bad or is just downright awful. Simply do your best, right a nifty little announcement about your site going LIVE on such and such a date, what’s its about and how great it is. Make sure you provide links in the press release to your site, just 2 links will be more than enough. Then go and search for some “free press release” submission sites and deliver your brand spanking new announcement release to about 10 of these free PR sites. Don’t pay a dime if your intention is just to get your site listed, you don’t actually want the publicity – you just want the listing, and this really does work.

3. Got any buddies with websites, can you buy them a beer for a link? If you know anyone else with a website that has a fair few visitors ask them to put up a link to your website until it gets listed. This is a tried and tested method – and the more buddies the better!

Search Engine Submission

4. Youtube.com, no you don’t have to upload that latest family video. You can create some new videos using some of Windows own tools! A few graphics created to promote your product, created into a video, uploaded to YouTube.com with a nice link to your URL at the side – lovely.

I could go on, but I think you will find that implanted correctly, selecting just 3 of the above 4 recommendations will safely see your site listed in a couple of days. There are many more variations to the above methods, and with a little thought you can no doubt figure these out yourself – but to train your thought, think Dailymotion and Myspace and all the other sites that follow the same theme and come in between.

If you are a fan of search engine submission links provided for free by the search engines, then there of course is absolutely no harm in using them. And you could of course you always pay a company to do it for you, but if you want to show all your friends and colleagues just how clever you are at getting your domain name listed so quickly just give the above a shot….

Next time I will go through ideas 5 – 10 just to give you a bit of variety!

SEO with Content Enhancement

Once effective keywords have been agreed upon, and a strategy has been formulated for outperforming competitors. As the title implies, content enhancement involves the modification of Website content. manipulate the current placement of existing content, add new content, or even remove existing content in certain circumstances.

Since the end goal of the search engine optimization (SEO) process is to achieve prominent placement for the right keywords, rather than tricking the search engines into listing your pages, we will need to ensure that the appropriate keywords are incorporated into your site in an appropriate manner. Simply including these keywords into your content is not enough.

Organic SEO Wiki

OrganicSEO.org was started on March 20, 2005 by Anthony Ettinger in an effort to create a well documented WIKI detailing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies. I started out writing a book about SEO, but decided it would be even better if other members of the SEO community would help write it with me.

This is a public work, and anybody is welcome to edit the content as they see fit. Please note that all spam will be promptly deleted and result in your IP being banned permanently. This is not a place to get a quick link for free.

That being said, I'm excited about this new project, and after seeing the success of such sites as Wikipedia.org (http://www.wikipedia.org), an online encyclopedia, I have great expectations for OrganicSEO.org.

Write SEO Content That Search Engines Love

The art of writing SEO content that search engines love is not always easy to learn even when specific instructions are available. SEO copywriting ideas often sound very simple in print, but then turn out to be almost impossible to accomplish due to lacking offline writing skills. Instructions for SEO text construction often forget to mention that good English-class skills are the secret to success while writing articles for the Web.

Not all English-class skills cross over into online writing. Proper SEO articles are written with different rules on punctuation. The comma, quote marks, and other writing symbols that go above or below normal text lines can be confused with programming script by the search engines. Professional SEO writers know this and will only write with proper commas or quotes in their text when employers demand this offline style of writing.

Search engines love keywords and keyword phrases that are placed into an article at specific density levels. For most styles of Internet articles, the good SEO content writers will use a density level of 2.9% or less per keyword. A keyword is a ‘key’ word on a page of text; no other word or phrase on the page can rank higher than the keyword in density or it becomes a more important keyword.

Keyword density and other important page qualities are calculated through arithmetic formulas that most professional SEO copywriters have with them on an SEO program while they write. These keyword programs will keep tabs on keywords and their density factors, the gunning fog index or page reading level, and lexical density factors such as sentence lengths that can affect reading levels, and keyword structuring.

It is possible to write high-quality SEO content that search engines love without a keyword program if the writer has a place to practice their keyword insertion techniques. Many beginning SEO writers will sign-up under a pen name for a large writing site where authors submit their writing to be paid by the click. Since this writing is going out on the Web, it is easy to try different SEO ideas to actually see what techniques work best.

Keywords and keyword phrases are hidden into the writing so that readers are not aware of their existence. There are different schools of thought on where they should go in an article, but most people do agree that the important words do best when they are sprinkled throughout the article. Many believe that current search engines read a page at the top first, at the bottom next, and then in the middle. Keywords are sometimes structured to be seen by the search engine quickly in this same type of sequence.

One quick rule to remember while learning to write SEO content that search engines love is that the writer should act like they are allergic to the word ‘you’. Google is the search engine that all Internet writers must please. Recently this search engine started ranking pages in part based upon conversation vs. information standards. Researching Keywords and Choosing the Right One

High ranking on Google is not just the only aspect of SEO to concentrate on; there is also the matter of high ranking with the appropriate keywords. There is nothing stopping you from using any obscure keyword phrase; it might be fairly simple to get a top ranking, but if no one is interested enough in the topic to search for that term, you are not going to get the traffic you need. So, you must get a hold of a phrase that brings in big numbers.

There is also another factor to take into consideration besides keyword traffic. The foundation of keyword researching is zeroing in on the right keyword phrase. You have to find keywords that go hand in hand with the subject matter of your business, products, and customers’ wants. Sure, using general keywords will get you tons of clicks, but specific long tail keywords will bring in directed traffic; that is what will lead to more sales and bring a higher ROL.

SEO Researching Tools at Your Disposal

Determining Keyword Density

Search engine optimization requires an understanding of keyword density as well as an understanding of how keyword density works in the overall analysis of your website. Keep reading to learn more about keyword density and what it may mean for your site.

The Meaning of Keyword Density?

The property of keyword density takes the text on your site and analyzes in a mathematical rather than a meaning-oriented way. Keyword density is defined as the keyword or key phrase percentage on a given page, taking the whole text into account. You can perform the math yourself to find out what the keyword density on each of your site pages is or use an online tool to work out the answer. The formula is:

Keyword Density = Keywords ÷ Total Words

So, if you have text content on one page of 500 words and 15 of those are key words, 5% would be your keyword density. This is easy to compute an the simplest hand-held calculator or a freebie calculator on your computer. You just enter the number of keywords, press the ÷ key, enter the total word count, and press the = key. Remember to switch from a decimal to a percentage by multiplying the answer by 100.

Using a Keyword Density Service

Because keyword density is considered an important factor in search engine optimization, you can find a number of free, online services to help you compute keyword density. There are at least two different styles:

• a window where you enter a textblock

• a window where you enter a URL

In addition, some just give you a straight percentage answer, while others allow you to include <meta> tag keywords or have the capacity to analyze multiple keywords on a single page simultaneously. You can search for to locate options for this service.

How Is Keyword Defined?

It's important for search engine optimization to know that a keyword is a word or a short phrase that is searched on. The keyword density is one way of establishing the topical focus of this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best text, and that's how Google sees it. But Google isn't the only game in town. Yahoo! has a different definition.
And Google, for example, sticks to this definition. But, Google is not the only search engine in town. Yahoo! in particular includes both synonyms and inflected forms (plurals, adjectival forms and the verb –ing and –ed endings, etc.) in its keyword count. For example, in the following text:

If you like to read books during your summer vacation, but don't want to buy them, come visit the library! Reading can be done in a comfortable chair on our air-conditioned premises, or all manner of readable material can be checked out and enjoyed in the comfort of your own home, at the beach, or poolside. Besides improving your mind, perusing the latest best seller can give you some great conversation starters.

If the keyword is read, Google will count one instance—the fifth word in the first sentence. Yahoo! will count read, reading, readable, and the synonym perusing: four times as many words in the same passage.

So if you're optimizing for Yahoo!, keep this in mind, and especially take note when choosing a keyword density counter to make sure its taking these elements into account.

Free for All Link Exchanges

Free for All Links: Links are often mentioned as an important aspect of website promotion, and you'll find recommendations of all sorts about how to best use them. But not all links will further your search engine optimization (SEO), and some may even scuttle it, so here's some explanation to help you avoid link pitfalls.

What Are Links?

The name link is a nickname for a hyperlink, an element in a web document connecting it to another section of that document (an internal link) or to another document somewhere on the web (an external link). External links can be used for a variety of purposes, including advertisement and promotion.

Besides being categorized as internal and external, links can be categorized by where they appear. It is possible to have links in running text, where they are generally identified by being a different color (and turn to a third color once they've been clicked). A link page where external links are collected and categorized is another popular place for links to appear. Thirdly, many advertisements, which may appear in a frame or elsewhere, show a graphic or text that is a link.

Using HTML, links can be set in at least two ways: the first is to replace the current page in the user's browser; the second is to create a new window (or tab) in the browser, while maintaining the connection with the address on your site. Because your visitor stays in contact with you with the second style of link, it is usually preferable.

What Are Free For All's and Link Farms?

There are various definitions of both Free For All's (FFAs) and Link Farms, so we have to define them before we can talk about them. Some people consider them the same thing. while others consider them two separate issues. The separate definitions is what we'll used here. We'll call a group of websites in which every site is linked to every other site regardless of theme and subject to be a link farm. (Be sure not to confuse this with a webring, a group of topically linked sites.)

The (usually fly-by-night) websites that are simply a list of links with the newest submission topping the lists are what is known as FFAs. Known for their ability to generate spam to submitters, they are difficult to disengage from, once you've signed up.

"Link Schemes"

Link schemes is the name Google uses for any links created solely to try to affect a website's page rank, and it takes a dim view of all such attempts to manipulate the system, as detailed in the Google Webmaster Help Center article "Link Schemes." Google Webmaster Trends Analyst John Mueller warns webmasters this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best to be wary of links that wouldn't exist if there were no such things as search engines and/or that you would be ashamed of people knowing about, such as links your visitors can't see (http://groups.google.com/group/Google_Webmaster_Help-Indexing/browse_thread/thread/1cf186fc2bf7fdbf/6ce5e820823ee277).

Besides links created only to increase page rank, Google also warns against links that are purchased and not either marked with a for the robots (see the article, "More About <meta> Tags" for an explanation of how to do this) or otherwise kept from influencing search engines; links to any kind of questionable site, whether run by spammers or home to any questionable (or illegal) materal; and "excessive" reciprocal links or link exchanges.

Create Good Title Tags

Good title tags: It's worth doing all the search engine optimization (SEO) you can to improve your page ranking, and one step you should not leave out is optimizing your title tags. Keep reading for some useful tips on how to create good title tags.

What Is a Title Tag?

In the head section of each web page is a place for several types of tags. A title tag is one such element, mandated to be in the head section by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium). Besides being a required element, W3C opines that the title tags should be "context rich," which means that they clearly and fully describe the page content, placing the page topic in context.

The form of a title tag is defined as follows:

<title>content</title>

and it appears in the head, making for the following:

<html>
<head>
<title>content</title>
</head>
</html>

All you do is replace the content place holder, which with a title that is unique to the page, preserving all the other bits exactly as they are shown.

What Does a Title Tag Do?

A title tag does different things depending on whose looking. A title tag is used for information provided to two audiences: spiders and web users

How Title Tags Work for Spiders

The spiders that collect data for search engines include the title tag data along with links and visible text to create the main three elements that will determine your page's rank. Spiders are specially tuned to keywords in the title tags and elsewhere.

How Title Tags Work for Web Users

There are six different situations in which people see the information in your title tag manifested:

• Directory employees or volunteers see your title tag as they consider whether to list your site after you apply. Keep in mind that the title tag is one of the main pieces of information on which they base their judgment.

• Webmasters see your title tag when they set up a link to your page.

• Searchers who do a keyword search and end up on a Search Engine Results Page (SERP) will see your title, in among all the other results for their search. Your title tag will be this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best competing for attention will all of your competitors (if you're a business), so you'll want to make it work in that company.

• Visitors to your site using most browsers will see the title from your title tag displayed at the top of the window. This is one reason it's good to distinguish the different pages of your site in the title tag.

• A visitor who has several windows tabbed—to, for example, do a product comparison—will see the initial letters of your title tag on the tab, so you'll want to make sure it will work to distinguish you in that situation.

• A visitor who bookmarks your site, will see your title as the default bookmark title.

White Hat Title Tags

White hat SEO techniques follow search engine guidelines for title tags. These are guidelines that fit those standards and result in quality title tags:

• Unless there's an extraordinary reason not to, write in phrases not sentences.

• Use title case, not sentence capitalization.

• Make sure the title tag matches the page content.

• Identify the site (by organization or individual name, as appropriate).

• Include keywords. Experts differ on where they should be placed. Keep in mind the human uses listed above in making your decision.

• Research your keywords using a keyword selector such as http://inventory.overture.com/ to help insure good choices.

• Create a unique title tag for each of your pages.

• W3C recommends that titles be less than 64 characters. Google has a 66 character limit and drops the entire last word if it crosses this boundary. Yahoo! has a 120 character limit, and simply cuts off after the last character that fits.

• Research keyword phrases before deciding which ones to include. Check a keyword selector for help, for example: http://inventory.overture.com/

• Avoid title tag stuffing, the black hat practice of piling a single title tag with loads of keywords and ignoring human uses of title tags.

• Avoid title tag stacking, the black hat practice of using multiple title tags stacked on top of each other in the head section.

Getting Listed in ODP/DMOZ

Short for "Open Directory Project" on the one hand and "Directory Mozilla" on the other, these two acronyms hide an important fact: this directory is a key place to have a website listing. Read on to find out the ins and outs of obtaining an ODP listing.

What Is ODP/DMOZ?

There are several important things to know about ODP/DMOZ

• This directory is explicitly not an attempt to catalogue all the material available on the World Wide Web. Instead, it aspires to be a "highly selective" and carefully categorized directory of pages and websites that meet the criteria of being "useful to users." Focused on objectivity instead of promotion, this largest of the directories is edited completely by volunteers.

• There are two directories that webmasters are recommended to submit to byGoogle Webmaster Help Center Guidelines, and ODP/DMOZ is one.

• ODP/DMOZ listings are free, unlike the Yahoo! directory which has a cost of $299.00 for submitting a directory listing and $299.00 per year annual fee thereafter if the listing is accepted (and the cost is higher for sites with adult content).

What's the Value of an ODP/DMOZ Listing?

ODP/DMOZ is one of Google's trusted sources, and while not having an ODP/DMOZ listing won't keep you out of Google, having a listing increases your site links because of its many clones and may help your rankings by Google. Moreover, Google is not the sole search engine that depends on ODP/DMOZ listings. The fact is, the data from OPD/DMOZ is used by its partners who include:

• AltaVista
• AOL
• Lycos
• MSN
• Netscape
• Webcrawler
• Yahoo

But an another important point is that your submission is not the only way your site can get into ODP/DMOZ. So before you submit your site, check to make sure it isn't already listed.

What Criteria Does ODP/DMOZ Have?

Now we come to some of the aspects of ODP/DMOZ that sometimes give webmasters difficulty. First, ODP/DMOZ reserves the right to reject any submission that they don't believe belongs in the directory and to do so without notice and without providing any recourse. There are, however, some submission guidelines that they provide, and following them is likely to improve your chances:

• Your site must contain unique Content—they exclude mirror sites, redirected sites, and sites filled with affiliate links.

• You must not submit your site multiple times or this in itself may ensure that you are not listed. There is a separate update process for changes after acceptance.

• Your site must not have illegal content of any kind.

• Your site must be fully developed, so don't submit while the "under construction" sign is still up.

• You must choose the proper category for your submission, both in terms of language and for content, choosing the most precise category available.

More information about criteria is available at http://www.dmoz.org/add.html

How Does One Submit a Listing?

• Make sure you understand the categories, using http://www.dmoz.org/help/cats.html as a resource.

• Start at http://www.dmoz.org and navigate to the category you have chosen.

• Click "Suggest URL" on the menu. This takes you to "Submit a Site to the Open Directory."

• Read the guidelines and fill in the form. Pay special attention to the required formatting for the title and site description.

• Read the terms of agreement, provided at the end of the form.

How Can You Improve Your Chances?

A number of people give advice about getting into ODP/DMOZ, but they make only a few simple points:

• Follow the guidelines to the letter.
• Submit to the proper category.
• Avoid promotional language.
• Don't even think about trying anything sneaky.

Common Issues

The two frequently heard complaints about submitting a site to ODP/DMOZ is that it takes a long time and that there is no feedback and recourse.

• Timing: ODP/DMOZ says that submitters should expect the process to take from 2 weeks to several months.

• Feedback: Whether your site is accepted or rejected, you will not hear from ODP/DMOZ about it – you will only discover the fact by either finding it in the directory this article has all rights reserved and is copyright by 100 Best one day, or never finding it there. There is no accepted way to contact ODP/DMOZ for follow-up, and no way to get a second chance.

  • The number of inbound links to your website
  • The quality of sites that link to your website
  • The relevancy of sites that link to your website
  • The anchor text (Anchor Text) of links to your website

Ways To Get Inbound Links To Your Website

There are multiple ways to get inbound links to your website depending on your budget. Many small webmasters or bloggers often do manual link exchanges with other relevant sites. This process takes a long time and efforts, and two-way links are not as favorable as one-way links.

Larger companies often hire SEO professionals to do the arduous tasks of link building.

An effective method to build inbound links is to buy text links ads on relevant websites.

Tips When Buying Links

  • Buy links from relevant websites
Our search functionality allows you search for keywords that exist in the publishers' websites.

text that reflects your Top Keywords. e.g: "Home Insurance", "USA Home Insurance", "Buy Home Insurance"

Onsite optimization means building website that is rich with content and your relevant keywords, proper H1 and Title tags, clear site structure, and getting a good domain name.

Offsite optimization means getting relevant websites to place links to your site with relevant anchor text or keywords.

Did you know that Search Engine Optimization consultants and companies (SEOs) can get search engine rankings to jump with barely a change to a website's text? How do they get their client's websites in the major indexes so quickly? Well, search engine optimization experts learned long ago that SEO is all about "offsite optimization" and the key to a successful offsite optimization campaign is the proper utilization of inbound text links to a website.

In addition, text link ads provide more ways for customers to find your website: to click and navigate to your site. Text links boosts your search engine position, which is a key factor in driving potential customers to your site.
